In a recent press release, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano announced the issuance of new directives regarding the search and seizure of electronic media (computers, disks, drives, tapes, mobile phones, cameras, music players, and other communication devices) at the border. These new directives, according to Napolitano, strike a balance between respecting the civil liberties and privacy of travelers while ensuring that the Department of Homeland Security can take the lawful actions necessary to secure our borders.
